Veeam 100 Summit Recap – Berlin 2024

I’d like to first thank Rick VanoverMadalina CristilNikola Pejková, and everyone at Veeam for their efforts and support leading into my third Veeam 100 Summit. It’s a HUGE undertaking that requires many levels of coordination. This was my third time attending the event in person. It was an honour to attend such a prestigious event for the third time and meet many fellow Vanguards, Legends and MVPs in person for the first time and again from previous Veeam 100 Summit events.  It is amazing how being at an event and being able to speak to others of the same mindset makes you feel great.  As for the host city of Berlin, it was my first time visiting this city for the summit, and did not disappoint.

Day 0 which was Monday, October 28th – was registration, badge collection, swag collection, and the Veeam Recovery Orchestrator session. This was a great session on VRO, where we saw many of the new enhancements coming. The evening was followed with the welcome reception hosted by Wasabi & Object First

This year, a new trophy was also given out, which included the 2023/2024 blocks for years in the program. The design is amazing—it is a “Jenga”-style trophy that looks cool!

The Veeam Recovery Orchestrator was a three hour workshop led by Emilee Tellez, Tim Smith, Kirsten Stoner, Eric Dougherty, and Matt Crape, which also comprised of labs for hands-on experience with the product. There were some challenges getting the labs going due to the number of people in the room, but eventually, it was all sorted out. The eight labs that were part of the session were:

  • Install Veeam Recovery Orchestrator – this one took the longest amount of time
  • Backup Jobs and Virtual Lab
  • vSphere Tags with Data Collection
  • Configuration of VRO
  • YARA Rules and DataLab Configuration
  • Creating Recovery Plans
  • Testing Recovery Plans
  • BONUS – Scheduling DataLab Tests and Reviewing Reports

Day 1 which was Tuesday, October 29th – began the first full day of sessions for the summit. The usual General Session began which outlined what is to come with Veeam and many of the other sessions to attend. We also heard from both sponsors of the event – Wasabi and Object First.

After the opening general session we then proceeded in to sessions about:

  • Veeam Data Platform – Core Updates Part 1 & 2
  • Veeam Data Cloud
  • Coveware by Veeam

Due to the RED content unfortunately there is nothing more I can comment on for these topics, but below is some green content of things to come.

This day was rounded out with the traditional and amazing toast by Craig Dalrymple, which is typically known as the Dalrymple Toast. Craig’s words are always inspiring and this year he made a special announcement with the toast. Congratulations again, Craig!

Day 2 which was Tuesday, October 30th – this was the final full day of some more great sessions, however, choosing was difficult as the sessions were split in to two rooms where you had to pick one or the other at the specific timeslot. In some cases the opposite sessions had a Teams meeting going so you could multitask.

I had a colleague that attended the summit and is a Veeam LegendHin Tang, so we decided to divide and conquer to get the most exposure for the sessions on day two. The sessions I attended were:

Hardened Repository ISO: What’s Now, What’s Next and Under the Hood with Hannes Kasparick & Rick Vanover

Veeam Recovery Orchestrator Updates ith Emilee Tellez & Alec King

Veeam Alliances – Security and Storage Integrations Update with Stephan Herzig & Alexander Fogelson

This session was yellow so there is nothing further to post about it.

Powershell Deep Dive with Chris Arceneaux & David Domask

Day 3 which was Wednesday, October 31st – the final half day with the always RED content Product Management AMA session. Full of some great details and things to come for Veeam in 2025! The day concluded at lunch and so concluded the V100 Summit for this year.

Please check out additional Veeam 100 Summit posts from fellow attendees, which include:

As always a huge thank you to both Veeam as well as – Rick Vanover, Nikola Pejkova, Safiya Mohamed, and Madalina Cristil for all the hard work and effort you put in to this event along with the support you provide to all the attendees. Here is to a great end to 2024 and looking forward to 2025 with what is to come.

Lastly, I will leave you with some photos that I took while in Berlin and walking around the wonderful city.
